Taking over Best Beef and Best Pork in Zambia

The Amatheon Agri Group, the Berlin-based agri and foods company, announced today it had entered into an agreement to purchase the Best Beef Company (BBC) and Best Pork Company (BPC), two Zambian abattoir and meat processors. The transaction was executed in February 2015 through the Amatheon subsidiary, The Real Meat Company Limited, in which Amatheon agreed to acquire a controlling stake in September 2014. The Zambian competition authority has approved the transactions.

The Amatheon group is a major player in the Zambian meat industry. The Best Beef Company, which was founded in 1997, slaughters and sells beef carcasses and fresh cuts. The company has steadily grown through their provision of high standard products. The Best Pork Company, which was founded in 2011, slaughters pork and processes various pork based products such as fresh pork meat, hams, bacons, polonies, sausages and other meat products. BPC quickly developed itself to become a leading marketer of value added meat products to retail grocers, broad line food service distributors, full service restaurant chains and supermarkets.

Carl Heinrich Bruhn, founder and CEO of the Amatheon Agri Group, commented that, “we are very excited to add the Best Beef Company and Best Pork Company to our Zambian meat cluster. The acquisition will create a strong player spanning the post-farm value chain with broad product offering in beef and pork. We see great potential for Best Beef and Best Pork as the companies have ideally positioned themselves over the last years to benefit from the growth in Zambian meat consumption.”
