Rural Ambulance Handover and Opening of Mother’s Shelter in Zambia

As part of the rural healthcare initiative with the German Arbeiter-Samariter Bund (ASB) in Zambia, today Amatheon Agri attended the official handover of an Ambulance donated to the Kaindu Health Centre, to provide much needed transport assistance for medical emergencies in the area. The Ambulance is provided through the partnership between Amatheon Agri and the ASB which focuses on supporting the health and wellness, and medical services and infrastructure in Mumbwa district. This German partnership targets the geographically isolated communities surrounding Amatheon’s farm and also includes trainings on how to minimize the risk of infectious diseases spreading, and how to apply adequate infection prevention measurements. Today’s ceremony also served as occasion for the Zambia Allocation Programme (ZAP) to officially hand over a newly-built Mother’s Shelter Room to the Kafwikamo Health Clinic. The event was attended by His Royal Highness Chief Kaindu, the District Commissioner (DC), a representative from the Office of the President, a donor from the Zambia Allocation Programme (ZAP), a representative from the Zambia National Service and community representatives.

In a symbolic act, the keys of the ambulance were presented to the Ministry of Health (MoH) accompanied by a speech from Amatheon Agri and on behalf of ASB. Amatheon Agri emphasized how combined efforts and knowledge transfer are key aspects of improving rural healthcare. In his remarks, the District Commissioner expressed his gratitude towards Amatheon Agri and ASB for their continuous support in Mumbwa District, specifically within the Kaindu Chiefdom. He further urged the responsible communities to take care of the vehicle and to honor the investments made in their area.

After the hand-over of the Mother’s Shelter Room to the Kafwikamo Health Clinic, the ZAP representative announced that the further construction of a skills training center adjacent to the Health Clinic was in a planning phase, to continue improving living standards and empowering local people in the area.

The community representative gave a vote of thanks to the donors, and the program was closed with a prayer and the National Anthem.
